1. Title tag and meta description length checker
Many guides suggest strict limits for title tag length, but this isn’t entirely accurate.
For desktop searches, Google usually shows full title tags that are 65-70 characters long (roughly 580-600px), but sometimes they’ll be trimmed down to 55 characters (around 430px to 540px). Why? Google aims to fit as many characters as possible within the 600px width without cutting words in the middle. However, it will always display the last word fully, even if that means truncating the title..
Similarly, meta descriptions typically display fully if they’re under 960px in length. These guidelines can change based on updates from Google.
Pro tip:If you want to check your ranking for a particular keyword, or see how your snippet compares to competitors, submit the keyword and drag your SERP snippet for a side-by-side comparison.
3. Optimize for SERP features
Google often highlights keywords in the meta description if they match the search query. You can try this out by entering key phrases into the “Bold keywords” field to see how they appear in your snippet.
Additionally, you can simulate other SERP features such as dates, star ratings, and ads to see how they might impact the visibility of your website.
4. Be Visually Irresistible!
To stand out in the search results, it’s important that your title and description look visually appealing. Use our “Heatmap” tool to gauge how attractive your snippet is based on various algorithms, including those for English, German, and Spanish.
